PRESENTATION OF THE LORD If we truly wish to be good stewards, we must also embrace and hold Christ. The Lord is our guide, our light, and needs to be at the center of our lives. The image of Simeon holding the baby Jesus in the temple is one which we need to carry with us every day, as we, too, hold the Lord not just in our arms, but in our hearts, so that we may like Simeon “go in peace” for we have seen “salvation.” We thank God for Jesus’ presence in our lives. PRESENTATION OF THE LORD The presentation of Jesus in the temple shows him to be the firstborn Son who belongs to the Lord. With Simeon and Anna, all Israel awaits its encounter with the Savior… Jesus is recognized as the long-expected Messiah, the ’light to the nations’ and the ’glory of Israel,’ but also ‘a sign that is spoken against.’ The sword predicted for Mary announces Christ’s perfect and unique oblation on the cross that will impart the salvation God has “prepared in the presence of all peoples.”

SCRIP NEWS SCRIP Credit Statements: The credit statements for SCRIP purchases made from June 1 – December 31, 2013 are ready! If you have a student at St. Charles, your statement was sent through school. SCRIP patrons who do not have students can pick their statements up from the SCRIP sales table. The following are guidelines on redeeming your credit.

FEBRUARY 2, 2014 ST. CHARLES RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 16 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Hession Center Go online to schedule an appointment www.redcrossblood.org Sponsor Code “stchcathc”

Please protect this statement as you would cash – just as it works like cash when using it for tuition or for a tax-deductible donation back to the church.

To prevent losing the statement, redeem it as soon as possible. If you have paid your tuition for this year, put it in a safe place and redeem it when paying your tuition for the 2014-2015 school year.

Divorced/Separated Catholic Support Group St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church welcomes men and women who have suffered from divorce or separation to our new program, The Catholic’s DIVORCE SURVIVAL Guide.

When redeeming your credit, please return the entire statement, not just the lower portion.

If your student is an 8th grader, remember that your credit can be used at Dwenger, Luers, Canterbury or any private high school. If your student will attend public high school, use the SCRIP credit for band fees or lab/book fees. You can save and continue to accumulate SCRIP credit so that it can be used for their college tuition.

Please join us on Thursday, February 6, Topic, “Seeing God in Romance.” This session introduces how romantic relationships are not the end all and be all of life, but rather are designed to mirror the more profound courtship and subsequent eternal marriage of Christ the Bridegroom with every human soul from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:45 p.m.) in the East Meeting Room, located off the Gathering Space in the Church. Please call 489-3537 Ext 208 for further information.

If you are in the fortunate position of receiving a State Choice Voucher, and don’t have to worry about your St. Charles tuition, remember, SCRIP credits do not expire. They can be saved for high school or college. Again, it is important that you save this statement. It is possible to reproduce it, however, it is a complicated, time-consuming process and becomes complicated when there is more than one copy of the statement in circulation.

Last but not least, have a plan for your credit. The parish truly appreciates your participation and support of this wonderful fundraiser. Your earned it, use it!
