Stuck for the Moment Example of My Work The following work is a quick look into some of my thinking as applied to creating the illusion of influence in magic performance. I am sharing this with members of Alchemy Moon to create awareness of my other products for magicians. Although I am sharing this for FREE to a few I still expect YOU to value the secrets shared here. Do NOT be fooled by the briefness of this document or the fact that I am giving this away for no money. This material is part of the work which helps me to create a legend for myself and can be very powerful if performed correctly. The EFFECT; Using words the magician causes the participant to temporarily become stuck in a moment and apparently unable to let go of a deck of cards as they hand them back to the performer. The METHOD; You use your REAL influence as a magician and the power of your words and actions to create the illusion of influence. Really. This is the method, however mysterious it sounds. You can also tell others this is what you are doing, without the need for a disclaimer as this is the truth. By “acting as if it is so” and performing as such, what you apparently do is seen to be reality by the participant as well as the audience. After the participant has shuffled a deck of cards say the following,

“So... Hand me the deck back AND hold onto it for a moment longer as if by listening to my words you become temporarily stuck and unable to let go of the Deck!” The first part of this scripting in BOLD contains both sides of the polarity of an action. By requesting for the deck of cards to be handed back and then immediately asking for them to continue to hold on to it for a moment longer, causes the participant to become confused temporarily. They can

NOT follow BOTH commands, so they become stuck momentarily. If they do NOT become stuck or confused they will likely just follow the second part of this dual statement and hold onto the cards anyway, as you try and take them back off of them. Here I pull on the deck a little, the participant gripping the deck and NOT letting go looks as if they really have been influenced by your words and can not let go of the deck. The second part of the scripting suggests a reason for the participant NOT giving the deck back straight away and helps to create the illusion of influence in the mind of those who experience what you do. All of these words together sound like a hypnotic suggestion to the audience at large and can seem this way to the participant later, too. The participant has now become temporarily stuck in a moment and is apparently unable to let go of the deck of cards due to your influence. To break the previous suggestion that they are

“stuck and unable to let go” snap your fingers and say the following words,

“Of Course you are NOT really stuck, are you!? NO. You can let go of the deck now. Thank you.” and then take the deck from the participant. Even the most sceptical participant will have to agree with you that they are NOT really stuck. The fact that you can now take the deck from the participant will indirectly suggest that they must have been under your influence, as they did NOT give you the deck back straight away before. Always make sure the participant is brought out of any trance state, whether real or imagined by themselves. Although this is the illusion of trance or influence primarily, people can become convinced through the illusion and believe what you do is real. So as to NOT harm others, make

sure you undo any of the effects of your influence and make everything back to normal. I add the line,

“Now everything is back to normal.” to make sure. As well as this, you may notice the suggestion of the participant being stuck is referred to as a temporary condition in the scripting. This is another way of making sure the participant will NOT have any problems, once the effect is over. If the participant hands the deck back to you straight away say the following words and then go into any other sure fire trick, which does NOT rely completely on words and suggestion to make it work.

“Of Course you can give me the deck back. My suggestions have NOT worked on you BUT that is fine as this means my next trick has to work.” Kenton is very careful with the words he uses and what he suggests in his performances, so as to not harm others. As a student of his I have taken heed of this teaching and suggest you do the same also.
