Happy mother’s day to all the women and men who mother these beautiful children and give them their all. God bless you! Nationally, they may only recognize you one day out of the year, but we give you praise for the 365 days that you hold it down! Awareness May is the month that we all can play a significant part in helping remove the stigma that often prevents many sufferers of mental illness from seeking help, by simply becoming more aware. Author Bebe Moore Campbell was an advocate of this cause who chose to dedicate time and money breaking down the barriers, demonstrating by her example of a family member that it is alright to acknowledge this illness and it is alright to seek help for a healthier life. She shared the importance of reaching out to love ones through her efforts to help improve the quality of life among this population by encouraging her readers to not fear the illness, but be determined to find solutions and share resources available. Her dedication to such an illness led her to writing a brilliant book, 72Hours, which thousands have read and benefited from. Lets all be a bit more patient, and concerned when it comes to dealing with family, friends and neighbors suffering from mental illness!

Book of the Month May’s Book of the Month is David L’s Over Your Dead Body

Next Meeting The next meeting will be hosted by Judi and Cindy. The food selection for May is Seafood.

Past Events Special thanks to Michele, Straw and Annie for hosting our last meeting. Of course they did a fabulous job. We discussed the month’s book, Every Reasonable Doubt. We had a very interactive book discussion. In attendance were author’s David L, author of Over Your Dead Body and Chalk Outline Confessions. We also had author Sil Lai Abrams, author of No More Drama. David L talked about both his books and what inspires him as a writer. Ms. Abrams talked about the difficult but necessary path she had to take to get her on the path she is on now. We thoroughly enjoyed both authors.

Reminders Members Please bring your deposits for the Crab Feast (August 16th) or payment for Atlantic City (June 7th). The cost of the Crab feast: members - $135 & non-members are $150. There are only three seats left on the bus for the Crab Feast! The price for the Atlantic City trip is $40. First come basis, seats are limited.

Book synopsis: What makes a financially successful, happily married man want to kill his wife? What makes that man turn into a fugitive and leave town with his two children? What if you were his best friend and witnessed his steady decline from family man to stone-cold criminal? Would you turn him in or support his every decision? Over Your Dead Body is set in present-day New York, written in characterspecific dialogue to effectively capture the essence of it's realism to urban America. Over Your Dead Body! stands alone in two ways: First, it provides a passionate backdrop of just how fragile an institution like marriage can be, and secondly, it clearly reveals that there is indeed – a thin line between love and hate.

Also, please bring in monies collected for the candy fundraiser. If you have not chosen your month for hosting a meeting please contact Alicia (347-453-6115) to find out which month is available.
