Carbon and sulphur cycling are tightly coupled. Significant work in understanding these biogeochemical cycles and their geological record has been focused on the study of modern microbial mats. Most studied modern microbial mats, however, are not currently mineralizing carbonates;this sometimes makes linking the modern environment and its biogeochemical cycles to the sedimentary record difficult. To overcome this hurdle, this study examines mineralization within modern environments. In this study we focus on stratified microbial mats and associated carbonates of the Laguna Negra [1], a shallow (
