HISTORY Joseph Carter Swaim (60:61) was born in Selma, Alabama January 23, 1904. He was educated in the public high school in Western Pennsylvania, gained his college degree from Washington and Jefferson, Washington, PA in 1924 and his M.Div. at Western Theological Seminary in 1927. Mr. Swaim earned his PhD from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland and a MST from the same. Dr. Swaim served pastorates in New York and Missouri before joining the faculty of Western Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh where he was Professor of New Testament for ten years. He moved from that post to become Executive Director of the Department of English Bible at the National Council of Churches in New York City where he remained for ten years, then spent ten years as pastor of Church of the Covenant in New York. In 1970, Swaim retired to FL, but returned to Washington, PA and the Redstone Apartments in 1990. He died in August 1997. Dr. J. Carter Swaim was the author of numerous books and publications.
