PREREQUISITE: Concurrent registration in MATH 215, or previous registration to Math 215, or equivalent. The course will cover tentatively Chapters One-Four, and Chapter Five:I,II. We will roughly follow the first timetable of Hefferon’s book outlined on the page v. We will devote sometime to proofs of some of the statements presented in the class. Note: Math 320 is intended for Math and CS majors. It covers less material than Math 310, and it has a sequel Math 425. Homework problems: Will be assigned a week in advance. See my website: //www.math.uic.edu/∼friedlan GRADING: 1. Homework - 15% -Will be collected usually on Wednesdays. Selected problems will be graded by TA. 2. Quizzes - 15%. (Usually there would be 10 minutes quiz in the end of the class once a week, except the first week of classes, and the exam week.) 3. 1 Midterm - 25%. Date: Wednesday, February 29, 2012. 3.
