Optical Network for Integrated Modular Avionics Xiaomin Liu‫؜‬Huagang Xiong, Qing Wu, Beihang University

„ Background

zThe evolution of avionics system has been to increase higher needs: performance; functionality; cost; integration; throughput; complexity; supportability; reliability[1].

zPassive optical network (PON) has been considered attractive due to the capacities of huge bandwidth, high data rate, long life-cycle, low operational costs[4]. Accordingly, it is desirable to envisage the PON-based IMA architecture.

zThe evolution of avionics system from the 1960s to the present day is experienced distributed avionics architecture, federates digital architecture and integrated modular architecture. zIntegrated avionics architecture is desirable for the next generation of high performance aircraft. zOptical networks provide greater bandwidth, excellent data transmission rate, enhanced immunity to electromagnetic interference, and less weight and size; therefore, the performance of the optical network can meet the demands of avionics system development.

z In avionics PON architecture ‫ ؜‬the dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) scheme is needed to guarantee the demands of avionics real-time performance

zWe adopt the Interleaved Polling with Adaptive Cyclic Time (IPACT) with priority approach to solve the bandwidth allocation problem,

zThis avionics passive optical network can fully utilize the advantages of optical network and reduce the cost of avionics system. zIn order to guarantee the real-time transmission of the avionics data packets, the IPACT with priority DBA scheme is presented. zThrough analyzing the simulation results, this paper concludes that the IPACT with priority approach can make full use of the bandwidth resource and satisfy the avionics real-time constraint. zThis avionics PON architecture can provide the high throughout, low transmission delay and meet the demands of avionics development.
