Principal We have had a very busy two weeks since the last school newsletter with our Year 3-5 students on camp, choir rehearsals in preparation for the night time performance at the Festival Theatre, science week activities, planning for book week in week 5, work experience students in the Junior Primary etc etc. It was great to have positive feedback from the teachers, SSOs and parents on camp in regards to our students positive behaviour. A big thank you to all the staff involved in the planning and organisation of the camp. It requires a lot of extra work and a big commitment to be on duty 24/7. Well done to all involved. You may have noticed recently that your child has brought home readers with a coloured sticker rather than a picture or numbered level. This is because Two Wells Primary School has recently adopted the DECD preferred method of levelling readers by colour bands (each band has two or three consecutive levels of readers). Research has shown that children selecting books from a band rather than a specific level are exposed to a variety of texts and difficulties. For example a student on level 3 will now borrow books from the red box so they will have books from levels 3-5 to choose from. Teachers will continue to test students to ascertain their reader level of text. Thank you to Angela and Anna who spend a considerable amount of time in the last school holidays colour banding all the readers. Gawler District College are holding a Curriculum and Pathways Expo on Monday 19th August 4:30pm– 7:00pm in their Resource Centre. Year seven students attending Gawler District College in 2014 are encouraged to attend with their parents/caregivers. Flyers will be distributed to all year seven students this week. Again if you have any ideas about how we can spend the funding received through the Empowering Local Schools Project that is, ways we can engage families or activities we can provide please email (see address above) the school. I would really appreciate parent input. No idea is too big, we are very happy for you to think outside the square!

6th Sept JP Assembly

Thank you to the parents who have stopped using the carpark after receiving a letter from the school and/or meeting with me. I appreciate your support to keep our students and wider community safe. I will continue to monitor and address families if needed.

9th Sept School Closure Day

On Wednesday we were pleased to have Lee Harrison from Mobile Science Education present to all students. Junior Primary students were able to explore sounds, vibrations, waves and air through The Noise Show. They learned new ways to irritate anyone within earshot, get shot with smoke rings, focus sounds with balloons, and much more! Middle and Upper Primary students were exposed to an interactive exploration of forces, pressure and some of the strange thoughts people have had about forces through the ages, in The Force Show. Again Lee proved to be highly engaging and students were thoroughly entertained.

If your child has an issue at school, please encourage them to come and talk to someone at school about it. Approaching other children’s parents outside of school hours can inflame a problem that should be dealt with by the school or may have already be dealt with. Issues are much easier to sort out if they are reported quickly and can be dealt with while the incident is fresh in people’s minds. At our school there are many people who can help a child deal with problems, including their class teachers, yard duty teachers, Mrs F-B, Mrs Ellis and Mrs Sanders. Sometimes students feel more comfortable talking with a particular adult, and where possible we will accommodate that, however we work as a team to solve problems and support children and when one person of the leadership team is not available, another will step in. Please encourage your child/ children to talk to us and if they come home with a problem, ask if they spoke to someone at school about it. As we often say, “If we don’t know about it, we can’t fix it’! Lynda Fitzpatrick-Brown

Variety Bash

I am pleased to acknowledge the SUPER EFFORT from the following students who attended for the full 46/46 days

The Variety Bash headed off from the main street on Saturday morning, farewelled by many brave (and cold) members of the community. It was a very lively and colourful event and it was great to see our colouring competition winners be acknowledged by the Mayor of Mallala District, Duncan Kennington and received their prize packs. Unfortunately they were mistakenly introduced as being from Mallala Primary School!

of Term Two, especially for the winter

RECEPTION TRANSITION Transition starts in week 7 of this term for those children starting school in Term 4. All children transitioning to Reception from the Two Wells Children’s Centre will be going into Room 12 with Mrs Mel Warren. Times and dates are as follows; Tuesday 3rd September 8:50 – 10:30 am Tuesday 10th September 8:50 – 12:30 pm Tuesday 17th September 8:50 – 1:30 pm If you are aware of any families who are enrolling children at our school, could you please encourage them to contact us as soon as possible if they have not already filled in an enrolment form. Thinking of using the bus service? Thank you to the parents who have returned the bus slip in the last newsletter. The slip appears again this time for those who may have missed it last time. REPEAT: In term 2 we made a fourth bus run to accommodate families who were on a waiting list to use the buses servicing the Lewiston area. These buses are now full again. We are currently reviewing the buses and planning for future enrolments, so if your students are eligible for the bus but do not currently use it, could you please complete the tear off slip and return it to the school as soon as possible.

Two Wells Toddler Read & Rhyme

45.5 days is FANTASTIC AS WELL – Julie James, William Kaesler, Trey Pearce, Hayden Smart-Gillich, Warren James, Michael James, Carlisa James, SOCIAL MEDIA and Primary School students The internet has become part of daily life, which potentially exposes us to increasing risks regarding the sharing of personal information. Adults, children and families need to be always alert and protecting themselves while online. Face book is not legal until a child reaches 13 years of age – therefore until Year Seven there should not be issues and yet the school is often having to deal with cyber bullying and upset children far younger than this. TIPS TO STAY SMART ONLINE:

Are you a parent, grandparent or carer of a pre- schooler? Join the Two Wells Toddler Read & Rhyme group and meet other families for a story and activities.

Make use of the Cybersafety Help Button – easily downloaded to PCs and mobile devices. Stop and think before you post any information or photos online. Report or talk to someone if you feel uncomfortable or threatened online. Regularly check privacy settings on social networking sites.

We generally meet on the first Wednesday of the month from 9.30-10.30 a.m. at the Two Wells Old Council Chambers. (next to the Library)

Look after each other online.

Behaviour Forms If your child comes home with a white form (Time Out), blue form (Office Intervention) or Green form (Bus Behaviour) please sign and return promptly so we know that you are aware of what has happened and how it has been dealt with. You will only be informed of what consequences your own child receives, not other people’s children.

The Middle Primary camp to Woodhouse was a terrific opportunity for students and staff to cooperate in a different setting. Thank you To Rms 4A and 4B for sharing a day with Mrs C and me last Thursday. The weather was lovely and everyone was busy outdoors with orienteering, cooking and Frisbee games. Congratulations Lauren, From Rm 4A for winning our frisbee competition. The final scores will remain a secret!

Tea, coffee and water provided. Dates for 2013:

School Banking School Banking Day Reminder Don’t forget that Friday is School Banking day and students should bring in their weekly deposit. Once students have individually collected 10 tokens they can then be redeemed for a range of great, exclusive reward items in recognition of their continued savings behaviour.
