Milesia tadzhikorum Peck et Hippa, 1988, proved to breed in the holes of Populus diversifolia Schrenk on the territory of Tajikistan. The materials contained male specimen what allowed us to describe the male of the species, unknown before. The puparium of the species is described. M. G. Krioosheina, A. N. Diptera, Syrphidae, Milesia, tadzhikorum, male, puparium, description.

puparia of this species were found in upper layers of moist detritus in stump hole. These brief data were repeated in the subsequent works (Teskey, 1976; Maier, 1982).

Introduction

The genus Milesia Latr. is more typical for Oriental region where more than 60 species were described (Hippa, 1990). Three species are known from Southern territories of the USA and three species from Afrotropical region. Five species were registered in. Palaearctic, three of them are known from east Palaearctic (Japan) and only two species are distributed in Southern Europe. One of them - M. semiluctifera (Villers) is also known from Ukraine, Turkmenistan and Transcaucasus, the other - M. crabroniformis (Fabr.) is registered in Transcaucasus (Peck, 1988). The data on the biology of the representatives of the genus are limited. Nearctic species M. oirginiensis (Drury) was reported to breed in moist dust of tree holes (Snow, 1958). Empty

Materials and methods

The work is based on the materials of Milesia tadzhikorum Peck et Hippa, described from females collected in Tajikistan from Vakhsh valley, including those from the neighbourhood of Dzhilikul, Tigrovaya Balka Reservation (peck, Hippa, 1988). The series of imagoes reared from larvae collected on the same territories contained the male specimen. As for the species was described from females we decided to describe male in this work. We have got two puparia of the species what allowed us to describe the puparium too. 69
