Our partner Notifier by Honeywell has launced an invaluable guide - ‘The Little Black Book’ on fire safety design, which will be of interest to anyone involved in the design or specification of a fire detection system, particularly M&E Consultants, Electrical Contractors, Fire Prevention Officers, FM Managers, and Building Custodians. The guide covers the common elements that should be considered when installing or upgrading a fire safety system, including practical information on legislation and guidelines, such as BS5839 part one. In addition to discussing different detection technologies for a mix of applications, the guide also explores the factors to be considered in avoiding the potential for false alarms while maintaining the speedy detection of real fires. Topics covered include: System Design, System Categories, Detection and Alarm Zones, Types of Detection, Audible Visual Alarms, Public Address and Voice Alarms, Emergency Voice Communication Systems, Alarm Paging Systems, Emergency Lighting and Central Battery Units, Eliminating False Alarms, Advanced System Control and Configuration, and a Quick Detector Selection Guide. Who’s Looking After Your Fire Extinguishers? Under The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person must provide general fire precautions including the provision of means to fight fire. The means to fight fire in most cases would be in the form of Portable fire extinguishers that conform to British or European standards. Extinguishers should be visually inspected on regular basis preferably monthly and should be fit for purpose and serviced annually. BS5306:3 Code of Practice for Fire Extinguisher Service and Maintenance provides recommendations on how to conduct a visual inspection and the designated responsible person within the organisation should record the results and arrange for corrective action, if necessary, by a competent person. If you employ 5 or more

people it is also a legal requirement to keep a permanent record of all servicing, maintenance and inspections for inspection by the Fire Services Inspectorate. Rosse Systems service and maintain Fire Extinguishers in accordance with BS3506 pt 3 by our BAFE certified engineers. We can also supply the ground breaking new Water Mist extinguisher that is legionella free. Click here to contact our sales for more information.
