2013 Sustainability Report Toyota
Cycle of transparency Through this report, Toyota do Brasil reaffirms the importance of transparency while publishing its social, economic and environmental performance
For the fifth consecutive year, Toyota do Brasil presents the society a summary of its performance through the Sustainability Report. This issue covers the fiscal year from April 2012 to March 2013, a period of important achievements for the company, such as Sorocaba plant inauguration, Etios launch and the announcement of the new engine factory, which will be constructed in Porto Feliz (São Paulo). The selection of indicators and data follows the guidelines of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), an international organization that promotes the sustainability report in the corporate segment. The indicators presented show the company’s impacts and practices in the environmental, social and economic aspects. Based on the principle of continuous improvement and respect for people, this document intends to be a tool of transparent and objective communication with Brazilians – who received the first Toyota operation outside Japan, more than 50 years ago. Reasserting its commitment to the country development, the company understands that this channel is essential for relationships of trust with customers, commercial partners and other audiences of interest. Good reading.

2013 Sustainability Report Toyota
Strong investment in Brazil With a new plant operation, launch of Etios and introduction of hybrid technology, Toyota reinforces its commitment to the country development Even with the challenges recently faced, with the unstable economic scenario, especially in Europe, and the need to reestablish operations after the natural tragedies that occurred in 2011 in Japan and Thailand, Toyota was capable to break records and make the fiscal year from April 2012 to March 2013 a period of important achievements. At the same time, Brazil kept good socio-environmental and business results, with special regard to Sorocaba ecofactory operation start, Etios launch of Prius hybrid technology, now marketed by the authorized network. In sales, Toyota Motor Corporation sold 9.7 million units and produced more than 9.9 million vehicles in 2012, ensuring the position of the world’s largest car manufacturer. Toyota do Brasil had an important participation in these results: it ended 2012 with 113,800 units sold, growing 15% in relation to the previous year. Corolla was leader in the segment of medium sedans for the fourth consecutive year, with over 56,000 units sold in the national territory. Hilux pickup and RAV4 and SW4 sport utility vehicles also presented positive performance: 38,884, 822 and 10,396 units sold, respectively.

The impact of carbon produced by TDB is also associated with logistic processes. To reduce such impact, the company invests in reduced consumption of packaging and more efficient transportation. The goal for the 2012/2013 fiscal year in this area was easily achieved: the emissions of CO2 were reduced by 22% and the amount of packaging materials was reduced by 30% (the goal for both was 5%).

Less waste The kaizens included a polymer treatment system of the export forging in São Bernardo do Campo, to reduce solid waste generation in wastewater treatment. GRI EN26
The improvements implemented include: reduction of sludge humidity and disposal of gloves and batteries in Indaiatuba, and the replacement of pumps from the wastewater treatment stations in Sorocaba, which allowed to reduce by 10% the generation of posttreatment material. GRI EN26

The waste management of TDB is focused on the principle of 3 Rs: reduce, recycle and reuse. Besides seeking to reduce the amount generated in production processes, the company invests in proper ways to dispose of waste and make its suppliers aware of the best practices. Today, more than 99% of waste is sent to recycling facilities.
