Transfusion-related necrotizing enterocolitis To the Editor: In their article, Blau et al1 report 36 patients with necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), which developed in 9 of them (25%) shortly after packed red blood cells (PRBC) transfusion, suggesting a possible relationship between PRBC transfusion and the development of NEC. They coin a new acronym to define this disorder: transfusion-related acute gut injury (TRAGI). The hypothesis is interesting; however, we would like to comment.
