UNM-PNM State Wide Mathematics Contest 2012-2013 Dear Math Teacher: The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New Mexico and the PNM Foundation are pleased to announce the 2012‐2013 UNM‐PNM Statewide Mathematics Contest. The purpose of the contest is to recognize and honor outstanding mathematics achievement among students in grades 6 through 12. Interested younger students are also welcome to participate. The contest has two rounds. The exams are designed to test mathematical potential and ingenuity as well as formal knowledge. Round I is administered by volunteer teachers at the student's home school. It can be given at the teacher’s/student’s convenience in the period November 2‐5 and every student should be allowed three hours of uninterrupted work. The top 200 finalists are invited to the UNM Campus on Saturday, February 2, 2013, to compete in Round II. In the morning of February 2 there will be a public lecture by Professor Titu Andreescu, Assistant Coach of the USA IMO Team, Member of the IMO Advisory Board & Founder and Director of Awesome Math. The Round II exam will be administered in the afternoon after a lunch break. We realize that you are using your personal time to administer the First Round. There are funds to compensate you for proctoring the exam at your school. Proctoring teachers will need to send us the reimbursement form which will be available at https://mathcontest.unm.edu/treimbursement.html. If you are not able to offer the exam at your school, Room 105 Education Building at the UNM Campus will be available on Sunday, November 4 from 1‐4 pm for interested students from schools that cannot offer the exam or for students with conflicts. If you have students who would like to take the exam you should register for the exam even if no‐one at your school can proctor. We also have a registration page for the students to register for the exam. Students are not required to register online, but we believe this will help you to know how many students will be attending the first round of the exam. We plan to send you excel spreadsheets a week before the exam with the students who have registered online. You may use this to help recruit students who forgot to sign up and with creating the spreadsheet that you will send back to us with all the students who took the exam at your school.
