Local Woman's Granddaughter Competes in Lifeguard Games LeeAnn Burback of Aurora, Col. was one of 500 lifeguards from the state of Colorado who participated in the 12th annual Lifeguard Games last month. LeeAnn is the daughter of William Burback of Kissimmee, Fla. and Mary Martin Burback of Denver, and the granddaughter of Sylvia Burback of Waterville. She is a senior at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Col. The Lifeguard Games is a fundraiser for Colorado Parks and Recreation. Hyland Hills Water World hosted it. A water safety instructor at Water World, Tom Nylin, said the event "gives lifeguards who are responsible for people's lives a chance to be with other lifeguards and get away from the stress of the pool." Thirty-eight teams from the state of Colorado competed in six categories designed to test their abilities and also have fun. The age of participants was 15 to 25. For the "strip and boogie

Playground in Art The Kirkland Art Center in Clinton has announced plans to continue its "Summer Playground in Art" classes through the week of Aug. 25 -29. These week long art sessions for children ages 6-9 meet Monday through Friday at the KAC from 10 a.m. until noon. The class offers a fun, team approach to a variety of mixed-media projects including drawing, painting, and pottery. Students may enroll in one or more of the remaining week-long sessions. Each week offers something different in the way of art projects and snacks are provided. There is a fee. Advance registration is required since the KAC reserves the right to cancel any class for which there is insufficient enrollment. Mastercard and Visa are accepted. A world renown evangelist, Carlos Annacondia, will preach. The event is sponsored by Central New York Pastors United for Revival. Annacondia was a factory owner near Buenos Aires, who at the age of 37, became an evangelist. He is known for his powerful "warfare" prayer. A series of coffee houses, Walls of Jericho, is planned by Elim Full Gospel Church, Route 12, just north of Waterville. The first one is set for 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 13. There will be additional coffee houses, each with free refreshments and entertainment, on every second Saturday of each month after Sept. 13.

In the "victim recovery relay" the contestant had to "rescue" a brick as if it were a person. It was while competing in this relay LeeAnn was photographed by the Denver Post which published the photo on the first page of the paper on July 14. Other competitions were the "inner tube relay," medley relay and adult CPR.

Bridgewater Event

Main Street Changing

The Bridgewater Bicentennial Committee is holding a Bridgewater town yard sale, Aug. 15-16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.. About 20 families have signed up for this day so far. Bridgewater Bicentennial Committee will have markers for each family that has participated in the yard sale. Maps will be available throughout Bridgewater. Main Street is changing again. Fred Moon is moving his barber shop back to his original location at 136 East Main Street in a building now owned by the Goedeker family. He expects to open his new location on Sept. 2. For the past few years Moon has been located at 154 Main Street. Woodhouse Liquor Store at 109 W. Main Street will be closing soon. They have sold the building and are having a clearance sale. The new owner of the building plans to open an insurance agency.

Woodhouse Liquors was started by A.C. Woodhouse on June 27, 1947. A small liquor store was established in a house which was located where the Agway gas station is now. The house was remodeled and moved forward after sustaining damage from the March 2, 1929 fire that destroyed most of the south side of Main Street. The present liquor store was built in 1956 on land purchased from the Osborne Mayer family. A.C. Woodhouse's son, George, was the proprietor until his death in 1996.
