Clarification on Assignment 1 for Week 4 1. Assessment The assignment is unit specific (contrary to what we had stated) so Lachlan and I will be assessing you using Adrian's brief for the assignment as a guideline. 2. Presentation format and length The 40 slides is a guideline. You should plan to speak 10 minutes only to as many slides as you want. This presentation should be designed as a presentation, not as a series of boards that are projected on the wall as they have been so far. The slides should cover both your research folio and the brief. 3. Submission deadline There are two other deliverables which are the research folio and the brief that are to be submitted to us digitally by noon on thursday with the presentation slides via email to [email protected]. All files should be under 10 MB. To get file size down in Acrobat, go to Document 'reduce file size'. If that does not work, go to 'examine document' and remove hidden text and non visible layers. We got all of last week's presentations down to 10 MB or below even though some people had 300 MB presentations. 4. Details on research folio The research folio needs to explore what we have learned through our previous work on the components and principles of carbon neutrality, precedents as well as the site analysis and lead to the production of your own drawings and diagrams to illustrate those concepts. It is absolutely crucial that you start drawing to explore how things work spatially: different systems (water, energy production, food production, creation of microclimates, transportation), studying different typologies in the form of diagrams. 5. Details on the brief The brief needs to demonstrate that you have a convincing case for the opportunity to locate a carbon neutral development in Leppington. It also needs to establish your vision for the site and what research questions might emerge further in your research project. The self assessment criteria refer to a strategy you have to device that would measure the performance/effectiveness of your measures towards carbon neutrality. How could you measure/improve your systems to evaluate the success of your design? All contemporary rating tools such as BASIX and NABERS are awarded post occupancy on an ongoing performance evaluation program. How would you implement something equivalent on your site? Please name your files in the following manner: For the presentation slides: GroupX_Assignment_1_Presentation.pdf For the brief: GroupX_Assignment_1_Brief.pdf For the research folio: GroupX_Assignment_1_folio.pdf
