Sub: - West Bengal Police Medical Insurance Policy In order to provide facilities for medical treatment to the Police Officers / Men / Ministerial Staff and their families in Private Nursing Homes / Hospitals, a group Medical Insurance Policy for West Bengal Police was launched with the National Insurance Company Ltd. for the period from 1st August ‘2004 to 31st July ‘2005 with 19735 members which is being renewed from time to time with the revised benefits. The same policy has been renewed this year for the further period from 1st August 2011 to 31st July 2012 with 28717 members. The annual premium for the renewed policy has been fixed for 2011-12 @ `2096/- (two thousands ninety six) only including service tax @ `10.30% with accidental death coverage of `5,00,000/- (On duty) and `2,50,000/-(Off duty) for primary member

by the National Insurance Company Ltd.. The entire contributions vis-a-vis the premium are realized from the Police Officers & Men and Ministerial Staff who wish to join the scheme voluntarily. The rate of annual premium is fixed on the basis of annual claim ratio.

Mediclaim Policy for West Bengal Police (2011-12) `2096/- in six installments `1,25,000/- (One lakh twenty five thousands) only. Four members of the family (primary member + spouse + dependent children / dependent unmarried or widowed daughter and sister. Dependent unmarried brother upto the age of 21 years.) `2,50,000/- in case of death (Off duty). `5,00,000/- in case of death (on duty).

Additional coverage in case of critical major diseases when sum insured is exhausted.

Pre-Hospitalization and postHospitalization coverage. Hospitalization and treatment expenses for maternity covered. Pre-existing diseases are covered. Treatment with cash less facility

The corporate buffer of `1 Crore. `1,50,000/- per family (Heart / Brain / Cerebral stroke, Heart surgery, kidney failure, Organ transplantation, Cancer and major accident). Pre Hospitalization – 30 days. Post Hospitalization – 60 days Normal Delivery – `8,500/Caesarian Delivery–`17,000/Included. Cash less treatment facility in all good hospitals / nursing homes of Kolkata and district Headquarters for all types of diseases. Up to 65 years of age.

Retired Police Personnel may continue with the Policy It may be mentioned here that personal accidental death policy for primary members

(Police personnel / Ministerial staff) only is covered with the benefit of a capital sum insured of `5,00,000/- (on duty) & `2,50.000/- (off duty) and a buffer amount of `1,00,00,000/- (one crore) is

kept / reserved for coverage year where from a maximum amount of `1,50,000/- per family is

allowed (on first come first served basis) for treatment of five specific major critical illness namely Heart / Brain / Cerebral Stroke, Heart surgery, Kidney failure, Organ transplantation, Cancer and major accident which are in addition to the normal medical insurance benefits. So, it can run concurrently with the West Bengal Health Scheme, 2008. If the number of entire forces and of ministerial staff increases, there can be a reduction of premia or the umbrella of coverage can be increased.

It appears that the claim ratio is higher than that of the paid premium. Police personnel/ministerial staff are enjoying the benefits of medical treatment from different nursing homes / hospitals and accidental death insurance compensation is being provided to the legal heirs of the deceased police personnel through this scheme. Besides all members of the scheme are enjoying the coverage period. The said policy will be renewed for further one year w.e.f. 01.08.2012 to 31.07.2013 with revised benefits. It has been decided that all ranks of police officers & men and ministerial staff of police offices in West Bengal Police will be brought under West Bengal Medical Insurance Scheme. All Heads of Dists. / Units are requested to take personal initiative to bring all police personnel / ministerial staff working under their control under Mediclaim Policy by explaining the benefits of the scheme through roll call, holding meeting / conference and briefing.
