OUTHOUSE RACES

“We’re taking the soapbox derby to a whole new level!” OFFICIAL RULES Stucture 1- 2- 3- 4 - 5- 6- 7- 8- 9- 10 -
Outhouse must be 3’ long and 3’ wide and 6’ high. (No weight requirements) Must have three (3) enclosed sides, a sloped roof, and an open front. May have side windows, but no bigger than 12” x 12” maximum. (No glass, just open) Must be constructed out of solid material, such as wood, metal or composite materials (OSB) Barnwood, etc.) No cardboard, plastic film, cloth (unless used for curtains), chicken wire or glass. Must have 4 wheels mounted no more than 10” outside of walls. Grasping devices or handles for pushers may not exceed 24” long and 6” wide. No ropes. Must be human powered, no motors. Must have a toilet seat mounted securely inside for rider to sit on. (handles for rider on the inside is also recommended) Each outhouse must have a name (in good taste), displayed on both sides. No explicit language or pornographic images are allowed on the outhouse. Each outhouse must have a toilet paper holder inside of outhouse with one roll of toilet paper on it. SITTER must wear a helmet. (Helmets for pushers is recommended but not required).

A team shall consist of four (4) people. Three (3) team members to push the outhouse and one (1) person to sit on the inside. The SITTER is not allowed to participate in the propelling process in any way and must remain seated for the full duration of the heat. Team members, as listed at registration, must remain the same throughout the competition, unless change is requested by a team member and authorized by an event official prior to the race. All team members must be 14 years of age and provide proof of age. Minors (anyone under 18) must have parent/guardian permission on a consent form to participate. Teams are encouraged to dress in like apparel and have a theme and dress accordingly (i.e. western, basketball/baseball/volleyball jerseys or wrestling singlets, scout group, hillbilly, pink for cancer, etc.) Three PUSHERS and inside SITTER may alternate positions between heats. Changing positions during the race is not allowed. Three obstacles will be completed during the course of each heat, in which the SITTER must exit the outhouse and follow instructions. Outhouse must cross yellow lines at each obstacle before the SITTER can exit. Obstacle must be completed and sitter must be given the go-ahead by race officia before re-entering the race.

1st OBSTACLE POOP TOSS - Sitter will toss bean bags into toilet seat.

2nd OBSTACLE CORN COB - Sitter must find a corn cob inside a cesspool (swimming pool full of muck) a - must reach in, crawl in, swim in, or stand in the pool to find corn cob b - may not empty any of the muck in order to find cob c - must place cob into empty bucket before proceeding back to outhouse
3 - 3rd OBSTACLE Toilet Paper Stand a - must exchange toilet paper from outhouse to spindle must replace it correctly - not just hanging off Outhouses will race in heats of two. Single elimination. Teams must be pre-registered. Must have outhouses and teams at the staging area (200 North, Junction, UT) by 5 PM. Race begins at 6.
