WiMax Connectivity: The Next Generation Network Ramya S. Gowda Lecturer and consultant, Sikkim Manipal University, Bangalore-08 Email:[email protected] Abstract:-In this paper we discuss about how WiMax can overtake the existing Internet connections. Today’s consumers demand more wireless connectivity in their personal and business lives. Research says that consumers are willing to pay extra for faster wireless connections in more places It is observed that WiMax connectivity is 100 times faster than the existing networks. It can be proved by showing the features and advantages that it is worth adopting this network over the existing and helps in almost all fields where internet connections are used. Wireless being one of the major successes of network has given many advantages to the business and network field. The Nortel WiMAX solution provides seamless mobility to end users in their homes, offices and on the go. WiMax being one of the important inventions of wireless has proved to be the drastic change of Network connections. The applications of WiMax are heterogeneous and vast. The WiMax provides solutions that comprises of voice, video, data and multimedia along with mobility. The gradual change in the need and necessity of mankind has lead to the invention of such a high speed, powerful and dynamic connectivity. WiMax Networks is an industry leader and innovator focused on transforming how the world communicates and exchanges information in a better and faster means. The company is supplying its service provider and enterprise customers with communications technology and infrastructure to enable many of the above mentioned applications. 1. INTRODUCTION WiMax is a recognized leader in delivering communications capabilities that make the promise of Business Made Simple a reality for our customers. Our next-generation technologies, for both service provider and enterprise networks, support multimedia and business-critical applications. WiMax technologies are designed to help eliminate today's barriers to efficiency, speed and performance by simplifying networks and connecting people to the information they need, when they need it. WiMax does business in more than 150 countries around the world (4). The internet, broad band access, camera phones, voice over-IP, instant messaging, social networking, video uploading- all make obvious the increasing importance of communication and connectivity in our daily lives. But the reason behind addiction to share information every moment of every day is the means for business and organization. The nature of decisions the companies have to make to ensure this connectedness, to know the opportunities and challenges and to know the implications of employees, senior managers and CEOs will become a competitive advantage (2). The WiMax answers all these questions by employing certain tools like IDC to conduct global study of working people. The study focused on quantifying the state of today's connectedness, tracking its acceptance and use across devices and applications as well as determining the pace of its growth and impact on the enterprise. WiMax’s Concept of Unwired Enterprise gives a light on delivering a wireless solution with the performance to allow communications over the wireless network. This builds the bridge between wired and wireless networks, and between onsite and offsite mobility. It gives universal mobility for continuous connectivity. Wireless handsets and mobility become the major form of communication due to which the role of enterprise will change. For e.g. the desk phone of the future will become an “intelligent hub” which will automatically sense the user presence and are compatible among them and get connected to corporate network. The personnel devices which use different access technologies will get connected, including laptops, wireless handsets, and iphones and internet tablets. 2. BACKGROUND Till today it is believed that the number of networks available in the market is a competitive edge to one another and one network is faster over the other network. The Evolution of WiMax Connectivity has proven this theory wrong since WiMax connectivity is 100 times faster than the existing networks. The emergence of Wireless networks has led various improvements in the world of networks. WiMax is one of the best outcomes of wireless networks by making wireless connectivity available everywhere at once, a wide variety of devices including PDAs, 47

digital music players, laptops, digital cameras and other equipment will be able to remain continually connected to the rest of the online world, no matter where they are. WiMax technology can be successfully used deliver broadband voice and data services to the country’s remote northern TOHUKU region (1).Nortel recently ran an extensive mobile WiMAX trial in Australia. Riding on the growing success of WiMAX, Nortel has formed numerous alliances to stimulate the development of end-to-end wireless solutions. WiMax is also leading developments in LTE (Long Term Evolution) and UMB (Ultra Mobile Broadband), two other technologies that also promise improvements in WiMax 4G services. In a world first, for e.g. WiMax UMB equipment proved capable of carrying a live call combining VoIP and high-definition video. And while WiMAX is deployable now, WiMax involvement with all the technologies will ensure a smooth migration path for providers of wireless services. While 3G mobile services are rapidly coming into their own as next- generation phone networks, 4G services take the wireless paradigm to a new level. It has been proved that WiMAX technology works as intended, what remains now is simply rolling out the right technology, and implementing the services that will help make the hyper connected world an everyday reality(1). The WiMax CSN (Connectivity Service Network) solution caters to carriers of various wireless experiences, from new entrants who have minimal operations backgrounds, to existing operations backgrounds, to existing operators looking to augments their current services (3). The recent trend of Wireless services and need of fastest networks has made WiMax a useful and accepting connectivity of the future. The emergence of Internet with Wireless connectivity has made WiMax: The next generation network. 3. MOTIVATION It has been shown by researchers that WiMax’s 4G vision helps in meeting the connectivity demands of the Five billion connection points (1).

Figure 1. WiMAX CSN architecture (Source [3]) WiMAX CSN Architecture shows that CSN and IMS network can be put together to obtain service and access variety of information. The flexibility in integration of both the elements from other applications in order to obtain identical information such as access type, presence, location and device type-to optimize the experience for end users. The IMS solution offers offer dynamic levels of service for individual sessions (3). This diagram shows that how the different gateways are connected with the internet which increases the capacity of the networks to fetch data from various sources and also various path. This increases the speed of the information retrieval to the end users. 48
